Jam in the Dam
Six years ago, the owner of an American booking agency, Vision International, had an epiphany about a festival he could create, built around one of the artists he handled at the time, Umphrey’s McGee. The agency had been involved since the inception of the ‘Jamband’ scene in the US over 20 years ago, helping develop the careers of Phish, Widespread Panic, Leftover Salmon, Freddy Jones, and even Dave Matthews. With the growing popularity of music oriented ‘destination travel’, they were sure that these fans would embrace an opportunity to travel and see their favorite bands in that mecca of tolerance, Amsterdam.
Well, the first Jam in the Dam became reality at the legendary Melkweg in Amsterdam, in March 2005, sold out four months in advance, and has become a mainstay of the festival scene. The venue has two beautiful concert venues under one roof, and has become the festival’s home. 2012 will be the 6th edition year, and it is still the only festival in Europe bringing the best of the American jambands to the continent.
